I tried my hand at fondant for the first time in making Conor's first birthday cake. I had a trusty partner (Lyndsay) who was good enough to do all the fondant kneading (which we made homemade) and color mixing. She also covered the top cake in fondant and made all the leaves. What a pair! We are so thrilled with the results, and must give credit to dear sister/aunt Hannah, who is a cake genius and gave us the inspiration and guidance.
Happy Birthday, Conor! Now we have to cut it???

You guys did an amazing job!!!
Yes you have to cut it! You've got pictures to remember how cute it is. Now you get to see how yummy it is!
How incredibly cool are you?! It looks great.
it's precious!! great job, ya'll!! I personally love the chubby animal part the best. awwwww darling!!!
Don't cut the zebra!!!!!!
Okay, cut the zebra. Very very cute -- and probably less painful than squirting all those little frosting stars all over the cakes like we used to do.
I love it! That reminds me...I need to post a pic of the cake Hannah made for Alyssa's 6th bday. She wanted a hawaiian Luao theme and Hannah (at the last minute I must add) put together THE most adorable Hula Girl cake...look for it on my blog, I'll post it later today...JoAnne's is having a scrapbook sale this week and I have the car today....I can hear the store calling my name!
This is a bad picture. The cake is perfectly level, but it looks like it's leaning here. Darn. I have many other pics though.
Awesome! You guys did a great job. The few cakes I have made for the girls I have to say "hurt" me when I had to cut 'em ;-)
I almost said something like "make sure you take a picture before you cut it". It is gorgeous!
I'm mucho impressed! Glad you took pictures! I made an awesome sunflower cake for one of my kids' first b-days and forgot to take a picture. Duh.

Hey there,
My name is Tristi and I'm also on Candace's LDS webring. Nice to meet you -- and that is a great cake. I've never used fondant before but I'm hearing it's the way to go.
And you homeschool, too, just like me! Okay, you're way cool.
